چکیده

• It is generally known that effective periods of vigorous exercise produce cardiac hypertrophy in rats' and in other species also. Experience has shown that it is difficult to produce a significant cardiac hypertrophy in normal, healthy dogs by use of a treadmill. This has been observed by the senior author and was mentioned by Eyster as early as 1928. Cardiac hypertrophy produced by exercise is regarded as a "work hypertrophy" because the work of the heart, including both ventricles, is greatly increased.
